FREMONT EARTH DAY CELEBRATION

April 22, 11AM - 3PM, Downtown Event Center

Each year, we celebrate Earth Day to promote the many efforts we can make to improve the world around us. While these efforts are often led by groups and organizations, they are meant to inspire each and every individual across the country. Together, we can...

  • Plant Trees to improve our air quality

  • Make our oceans safer for marine life

  • Slow the progression of our landfills

  • Reduce waste by reusing throw-away items

  • Reverse the impact of climate change

  • And SO much more!

To learn how you can make a difference, we invite you to join us for Fremont's annual Earth Day celebration. Our volunteers will be on hand to share all kinds of helpful tips that you, in turn, can share with your friends and family.

Repurposing, or recycling, is just one of the many strides we are taking at LEAF. And we'll be collecting these items from you on Earth Day and during the weeks that follow.

FREMONT EARTH DAY CELEBRATION

April 22, 11AM - 3PM, Downtown Event Center

At the Earth Day celebration, LEAF will be collecting items to be repurposed. These include bras, crayons, and socks. So, what exactly will be done with these items? Let's take a look!

bras.jpg

The Bra Recyclers of Arizona, who'll receive each bra we collect, has an amazing program. Their mission is to provide underwear to families in need and reduce the number of usable textiles going to our landfills. They also also  create jobs for individuals with disabilities.

You can start collecting bras you've outgrown or no longer wear today, and bring them along with you to Fremont's Earth Day celebration. We'll have posters with the image above to direct you where to deposit them. Stay tuned for more info!

FREMONT EARTH DAY CELEBRATION

April 22, 11AM - 3PM, Downtown Event Center

Today, we're continuing to share with you the items we'll be collecting during Fremont's Earth Day celebration on April 22nd. These include bras, crayons, and socks. that will be repurposed, or recycled. Let's now look at another one of these items that can be found inside backpacks and junk drawers in nearly every one of our homes.

crayons.jpg

Even after years of exposure to sweltering heat while lying in a landfill, crayons will not biodegrade. After an evening at a restaurant where his kids were given crayons, Brian Ware, the founder of The Crayon Initiative, began to ponder over what can be done with the zillions of crayons that are thrown away each year. His solution did not only involve making new ones, but also providing them for free to children in hospitals all over the country. To him, and I'm sure you'll agree, creativity brings happiness to kids of all ages.

We at LEAF salute Mr. Ware and the wonderful work his organization is doing. And we hope you'll bring as many crayons as you can muster to our recycling bins on April 22nd.

FREMONT EARTH DAY CELEBRATION

Today, we're continuing to share with you the items we'll be collecting during Fremont's Earth Day celebration on April 22nd. These include bras, crayons, and socks that will be repurposed, or recycled. Today, we'll look at what we're willing to bet you're wearing two of as you read this. Some will have a pair just like them in a drawer.

On Earth Day, we won't just be collecting old pairs that are worn with holes for your toes to peek through. We want you to bring some brand new socks as well. Emi-G Knitting, an organization in Fort Payne, Alabama, will be taking in all the socks we collect. The new socks you provide will be donated to local nonprofits. As for your used socks, Emi-G will repurpose the materials to be used as insulation beneath the upholstery inside new cars and trucks, and to serve as a sound barriers between drivers and their vehicles' engine.

Once again, we urge you to begin collecting these items now with a plan to visit our booths on Earth Day. Just look for the LEAF logo!

FREMONT EARTH DAY CELEBRATION

April 22, 11AM - 3PM, Downtown Event Center

Earth Day is TOMORROW, and we're hugely excited about the opportunity to rub shoulders with our friends and neighbors during Fremont's big celebration downtown. LEAF will occupy 20 of the many booths and points of information that will be available to share the importance of our collective effort to invest in our planet.

We also want to share our excitement over the work we're doing at LEAF that you can be a part of. This work includes donating thousands of pounds of food to our local food banks—food that we grow and harvest all year long. We'd also love to have your school-age child join our Students For LEAF program.  Young and old, we've got many learning and volunteering opportunities for you on the horizon.

As you visit our booths, we'd love for you to jot down your name and email address so we can continue sharing these opportunities. And be sure to visit our Bees & Pollinators booth to enter a fun contest where you can win a giant jar of local honey!

Don't forget to bring your recyclables! Our campaign in 2022 was a huge success. And we're looking to reach new heights this year, thanks to your generosity and willingness to to help make our planet a better and safer place to live.

See you tomorrow!
